Trollheimen Protected Landscape
Trollheimen received protected landscape status in 1987 to preserve a unique and beautiful mountain region that is home to untouched forests, lush mountain pastures, and an unusually rich plant and animal life.
Innerdalen Protected Landscape
Wedged into Trollheimen, Innerdalen was the first area in Norway to receive protected landscape status. Following an initiative by landowner Øystein Opdøl and the Norwegian Alpine Club, the area was protected in 1967 to preserve a beautiful landscape with significant recreational and scientific value.
Minilldalsmyrene Nature Reserve
Minilldalsmyrene Nature Reserve at Nerskogen in Rennebu Municipality is protected to preserve a large, unusual wetland area with rich birdlife. It is a place where visitors can experience the Minilla River winding its way through a beautiful landscape. Ski trails are also groomed here in the winter, much to the delight of the many cabin owners just outside the protected area.
Svartåmoen Nature Reserve
Svartåmoen Nature Reserve is located in the inner central areas of Trollheimen. Visitors will find untouched, primeval pine forests, marshland areas with kettle holes, and lush deciduous forests along the rivers.
At Svartåmoen, visitors can experience the pristine wilderness without disturbances from the big cities. Trollheimshytta cabin is centrally located in the nature reserve, and several of the waymarked trails in Trollheimen intersect at this point.
