Approaches

There are many different starting points for trips into Trollheimen. The ones most commonly used and best suited for mountain tourists are described below. Visitors can embark on multi-day hikes in Trollheimen and Innerdalen, or find well-adapted and waymarked trails for shorter trips.

Innerdalen.

Innerdalen

Innerdalen in Sunndal is referred to as Norway’s most beautiful valley. This lush and biodiverse area is surrounded by steep mountains, and is best experienced starting from the parking area in Nerdalen.

Gjøra/Vollan

Gjøra is a good starting point for experiencing the narrow and steep Sunndalen valley over several days, from several large protected areas.

Storlidalen

Storlidalen in Oppdal is a vibrant mountain valley that is home to farms, local cuisine and a rich history. Accommodation is available at Baardsgarden, Storli Gard, and Bortistu Mountain Farm.

Gjevilvassdalen

The beautiful Gjevillvassdalen valley in Oppdal is sheltered and lush, with a rich cultural landscape featuring summer mountain farms and grazing livestock. The natural focal point for hikers is Gjevilvasshytta cabin. Swimming in the lake at Raudøra is also popular.

Nerskogen

Nerskogen in Rennebu is a vibrant local community that is home to a general store, an alpine skiing resort, active agriculture and reindeer husbandry. The area has waymarked trails leading to Jøldalen valley, as well as summit trips of varying lengths. Groomed ski trails are also prepared during the winter months.

Resdalen

From Å in Meldal, a road leads to Resdalen valley, where visitors can start their trip along a waymarked trail next to Resvatnet lake to Jøldalshytta cabin. Resvatnet lake itself is also a great area for swimming and short trips in the surrounding area.

Helgetunmarka, parking

Helgetunmarka

Helgetunmarka is located in Rindal, an area used by many cabin owners and locals for outdoor activities. There are ski trails and waymarked paths to Helgetunsetra, Raudfjellet, and Litj Raudfjellet. This area is well-suited for day trips.

Vindøldalen

Vindøldalen in Surnadal is widely used by locals and cabin owners. Here, visitors can also find Sætersetra and Vindølbu, self-service mountain cabins owned by Kristiansund and Nordmøre Trekking Association.

Todalen

Todalen and Kårvatn

Experience fjords, wild mountains, waterfalls and lush farming valleys in Todalen and around Kårvatn. Whether it is the high mountains that attract you to go on a trip or if you are looking for more accessible experiences, Todalen has something to offer. This area offers great trips and experiences for both the experienced hiker and for families or groups who require more adaptation.
