Established trail network
Well-marked trails provide safety for mountain hikers. The established trail network in Trollheimen and Innerdalen offers many opportunities for both short and long trips. With both serviced and unserviced tourist cabins, anyone wishing to experience the area can find suitable accommodation.
Descriptions of the trail network and cabins can be found at UT.no. Both Trondheim Trekking Association (TT) and Kristiansund and Nordmøre Trekking Association (KNT) have routes and cabins in Trollheimen and Innerdalen.
The popular triangle
The most famous hike in Trollheimen is the triangular route which runs between three serviced tourist cabins owned by Trondheim Trekking Association. Most people who take this route start in Gjevilvassdalen and go via Trollheimshytta cabin and Jøldalshytta cabin before returning to Gjevilvasshytta cabin.
At Jøldalshytta cabin, visitors can experience traditional summer mountain farming with both cows and goats and be served fresh mountain milk for breakfast. Jøldalshytta cabin, like Gjevilvasshytta cabin, also offers daytime serving for guests. We recommend you take a day trip to Jøldalshytta cabin from Heldalen at Nerskogen. The trip offers a genuine Trollheimen experience.
Innerdalen
The conditions at Innerdalen are excellent for summit trips of varying difficulty levels. There is a long tradition of climbing in this area, while several spectacular peaks can also be reached without the use of ropes and protection. If you are experienced, you might venture out on your own, but there are also guides available to make the experience safer if you are unfamiliar with the area or lack sufficient knowledge about climbing or summit trips in this rugged mountain landscape.
Renndølsetra is a great destination for families. There is active summer mountain farming, and visitors have the opportunity to meet the animals or simply enjoy a coffee and waffle in the farmyard.
